About

Statement of Faith

About the Trinity
We believe that there is only one true God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 1:1-2; John 1:1-3; Isaiah 45:5; Zechariah 12:10; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

About God the Father
We believe in God the Father, who is infinite, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, immutable and perfect in holiness, wisdom, justice and love.
(Psalm 139; Isaiah 40:28-31; Acts 17:24-31)

About Jesus Christ the Son
We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who became a man without ceasing to be God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and whose death, burial and resurrection provides atonement for all those who believe in Him and is the only way that one can be saved and have eternal life with God.
(Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 7:22-28)

About the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who illuminates, indwells, sanctifies and empowers all believers until the day of redemption, providing each with various gifts for service and who is an abiding helper, teacher, guide and comforter.
(John 14:16-17, 14:26, 16:7-15; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 1:13-14)

About the Bible
We believe that the Bible is the divinely-inspired Word of God, wholly truthful and trustworthy, pointing to life in God through Jesus Christ.

(Psalm 19:7-11; Matthew 5:17-18; Luke 24:44; John 5:39; Colossians 2:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Peter 1:4-5, 1:20-21)

About Angels and Satan
We believe in angels of God as well as fallen angels (demons) including Satan, who fell from favor with God to become the enemy of both God and humanity.
(Isaiah 14:12-20; Luke 10:18-19; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; Ephesians 6:10-18;
Revelation 12:10-12, 20:10)

About Humanity
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. We believe that all humanity is created in the image of God, male and female alike, but, due to disobedience against God’s good and just authority, has incurred a sinful nature. We believe humanity has no power to change its fallen state, but can only be redeemed by the power of God, through Jesus Christ.

(Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 51:5, 139; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31; John 15:4-5; Romans 3:10-18, 3:23)

About Salvation, Sanctification and Manifestation
We believe that salvation is the work of spiritual regeneration obtained only by the sovereign grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the church today as they were for the early church.

(John 1:28-29, 3:3-21, 11:25-26, 14:6; Acts 13:38-39; Romans 3:21-26, 10:9-13; Ephesians 1:1-14, 2:8-10; Acts 2:1-4, 2:37-39, 4:29-31; 1 Corinthians 12-14)

About Leadership

We are a non-denominational Christian Church. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians and churches, we believe that the local Church should be governed by Elders from among the members.

(1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 14:23; 1 Timothy 5:17; Ephesians 5:23-25; 1 Peter 5:1-4)

About Last Things

We believe in the personal, imminent, earthly return of the Lord Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom forever. (John 5:27-29, 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12; Revelation 20:11-15)

Our Practices

Community Celebrations

We believe Jesus Christ instituted two celebrations that all believers are to observe: water baptism and communion, which flow from a healthy community committed to prayer and to worship of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Mark 11:17; Acts 1:12-14, 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 14)

Ecclesia

The Church consists of those who have been called into a personal relationship with Jesus who make up the Body of Christ. Worship services will include non-believers and those who may be in the process of becoming believers; however, the service we envision is primarily designed for true believers, the Body of Christ. These weekly worship services will be modeled after Act 2:42-47 with the Body of believers devoting ourselves to the expositional teaching of God’s Word, fellowship, the breaking of bread (including the Lord’s Supper/Communion and meals) and the prayers, along with worship through singing and the administration of baptism.

Elder Governed

We will replicate Paul’s patterns in establishing elders in every church (Acts 14:23, Acts 20:17, & 1 Tim. 5:17) and also follow his instructions laid out in Titus 1:5. Our prayer is to be an elder-governed, functioning body of believers with everyone using their gifts for the common good in accordance with 1 Cor. 12:7.

A Word and Power Church

We seek to be an assembly of believers who love the Word and the Spirit. This includes the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22- 23) as well as the continuing manifestations of the Spirit in the forms of gifts and miracles. We are behind enemy lines and the ruler of this world (John 14:30; 2 Cor. 4:4) prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Believers must be equipped with the Word and the Spirit to access the weapons of divine power to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God (2 Cor. 10:3-6). We will seek to learn and operate in the gifts of the Spirit (I Cor. 12:7) and to prophesy as Paul instructs (1 Cor. 14:1-3 and 12) in order to build up the Church. We will have development groups that train in the various gifts so that we can all mature and grow in our understanding and operation in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Carry out the Great Commission
via the Great Commandment

An outward-focused mission of sharing the Gospel to the ends of the earth is essential to a healthy church; and we will labor to lead people to Christ and transform them into disciples as part of the mission of the church. The Lord told us that the world would know we are His disciples by our love for oneanother. Loving the Lord God and loving one another will be the method the Spirit uses to shine His light into the darkness and show the world who Jesus is and that we are His (Matt. 28:18, 22:37, Mk. 12:30 ff. & John 13:34-35).

Teacher/Preacher

Christ is the head of the assembly, His Body. The assembly will have a rotating team of teachers who are gifted at teaching and rightly dividing the Word. The primary form of teaching will be expository in nature – i.e. exegeting the text that the entire body has been meditating on the week before.

Journeying together

Too often, the Body of Christ has been reduced to a one hour gathering once a week. And even then, this sometimes occurs in a room so large and with so many people that fellowship does not occur. We are committed to living out our lives in fellowship with one another. See Acts 2:42. & Heb. 10:25.

Membership

Ultimately, the new assembly will form a membership so that we will know for whom and to whom we are accountable under Jesus. The membership process may take a few months or even a year or so, but it is an essential part of the church. See Heb. 13:17, Mt. 18:17, 1 Cor. 5:9ff., & 2 Cor. 2:6.

Baptism

The church will adhere to believer's baptism (Mt. 28:19-20, Acts 2:38); however, a strong emphasis will be given to baby dedications (Acts 2:39, 1 Cor. 7:14).

Lord's Supper & Communion

Communion will be held weekly and it will occur at an actual meal. In the scripture, the Lord's Supper always takes place during or after a meal (Mt. 26:26, Mk. 14:22, Lk. 22:15ff., & 1 Cor. 11:27ff.). This is a great time for the body to fellowship and carry out the sacrament of the Eucharist.

Church Planting & Expansion

We seek to plant churches organically as members migrate to other areas, cities, or states. We will also limit our congregation commensurate with the size of our facility, and when we can no longer worship in a single meeting we will branch off and form a new assembly. We will also support church plants in participation with various organizations.

Mission(s)

To be on Mission will be a priority. We will support missions with a large portion of our finances. We will spread the message of Jesus Christ in the Memorial Villages as well as in the surrounding city of Houston, in Texas, the USA, and to the ends of the earth.
